Frequently Asked Questions
What is the University Transfer Program?
The University Transfer (UT) program is a selection of courses taken at Camosun College which can be transferred for credit to at least one BC university or university/college. This allows you to complete as much as two years of your bachelor’s degree professional program at Camosun. Camosun offers UT in four areas: arts, science, education, and business/commerce. After completing one or two years of UT courses at Camosun, you can then transfer to a university or college for second- or third-year courses accordingly. Camosun College also offers a number of 2-year associate degrees in arts and science.
What grades do I need to get in?
Unlike most universities, Camosun College does not look at your over-all GPA. You will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis provided you have successfully completed the minimum academic requirements (prerequisites). These prerequisites vary from course to course, with English 12 being the most common. In most cases, you mush have a letter grade of C or better in the specific course prerequisites, although in some cases (math courses for instance) a grade higher than C will be required.
What if I don’t have the prerequisites I need?
Camosun College offers biology, chemistry, English, math and physics at the grade 11 and 12 level. We call this the College Preparatory program. If you have your English 12, but need to pick up a math or science prerequisite, it is possible to take a combination of College Preparatory and UT courses.
How many courses should I take?
If you’re planning to attend college on a full time basis, we recommend a maximum of 5 courses per semester. However, many UT students choose part-time studies due to work or other commitments. If you choose the part-time option, you may also want to enrol in one or two courses over the spring (May-June) or summer (July-August) terms.
How do I register for the University Transfer program?
Camosun College begins to accept applications by mail on the third Monday in January, for courses beginning in the next academic year. Application forms are available from Camosun’s Admissions/Registration offices, as well as from secondary school counsellors. Be sure to include the non-refundable application fee and a high school transcript; students in high school must also submit their Personal Education Number (PEN). After your application is received, you will be mailed information about how and when to sign up for a mandatory Advising Seminar. Registration for September UT courses occurs in July and August and is usually completed by phone.
